About OK City Chorus

The OK City Chorus has a 50+ year history of providing outstanding, show-stopping entertainment. Made up of over 100 women from cities throughout Oklahoma, our goal is to preserve the American art form of 4-part, a cappella, barbershop music by “harmonizing the world."
Our passion for barbershop harmony includes performance, competition and educational outreach. The OK City Chorus is one of the metro’s favorite performing groups,
singing at the Downtown Festival of the Arts, Edmond’s Hafer Park Summer Concert Series, and Oklahoma City's Opening Night, in addition to our annual shows and other special performances. As an Allied Arts member agency, we have performed locally with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic as well as regionally, nationally and internationally in performance venues as far away as Royal Albert Hall in London and the Great Wall of China.

Performance

The OK City Chorus can provide entertainment for any size event by booking quartets, small groups or the entire chorus--we are the perfect choice for everything from small parties to major corporate events to community performances! Call 405.720.SING or book OK City for your next event.

Education

We are an educational organization. Throughout the year, we have many opportunities to enhance our musical knowledge while all the time having fun doing it. These educational opportunities are done through coaching sessions either at our regular rehearsal or special designated times. The annual Summer Music Camp sponsored by the Region and the OK City Chorus Retreat are two of our favorite opportunities to gather and focus on a variety of topics related to our craft such as vocal production, choreography, visual performance, music theory.

In addition to our own personal educational growth, we like to pass this truly American art form on to future generations. The OK City Chorus provides educational workshops and youth-based events like the OK City Star Contest and 'A Cappella Rocks'. Check out both of these exciting programs.

OK City Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. Sweet Adelines International headquarters is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We are part of Region 25, 'Heart of America' which includes all of Oklahoma, north Texas, and parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri.

We are also very involved in the local arts community and have been an active Allied Arts member agency in Oklahoma City since 1999.

 Competition

Competition comes in the form of an annual regional competition where choruses and quartets from a five-state area come together to determine who will represent the region in international competition. OK City has proudly represented Region 25 at the international competition on twenty different occasions, most recently in Seattle, Honolulu and Las Vegas.  We look forward to representing Region 25 in Denver in 2012.  International Competition is the ultimate female barbershop competition--not to be missed!

Quartets

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. OK City Chorus currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartet section and learn more about them.
