About OK City Chorus

OK City Chorus, Sweet Adelines International, is committed to the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.

OK City Chorus seeks to increase awareness of the American art form of a cappella singing in the barbershop style both in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and the state of Oklahoma.

The OK City Chorus has a 60+ year history of providing outstanding, show-stopping entertainment across our great state and aroud the world. Made up of almost 70 women from cities throughout Oklahoma, our goal is to preserve the American art form of 4-part, a cappella, barbershop music by “harmonizing the world."
The OK City Chorus is a metro favorite. We have enjoyed singing at the Downtown Festival of the Arts, Edmond’s Hafer Park Summer Concert Series, and Oklahoma City's Opening Night, in addition to our annual shows and other special performances. As an Allied Arts member agency, we have performed locally with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic as well as regionally, nationally and internationally in performance venues as far away as Royal Albert Hall in London and the Great Wall of China.

The OK City Chorus  provides educational outreach opportunities for youth in the metro area.  Middle and high school students participate in A Capella Rocks, an in house program that introduces youth to four part a cappella singing.  The annual Youth in Harmony Workshop gives young women an opportunity to sing and perform barbershop songs in a day-long event.  Journeys In Harmony is a day-long, interactive vocal/instrumental workshop for Girl Scouts that enables them to earn the SAI Young Women In Harmony patch, the Girl Scout Musician badge, and our Journeys In Harmony patch.

The OK City Chorus can provide entertainment for any size event by booking quartets, small groups or the entire chorus--we are the perfect choice for everything from small parties to major corporate events to community performances! OK City Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 22,000 members in choruses and quartets worldwide.  Sweet Adelines International headquarters is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We are part of Heart of American Region 25  which includes all of Oklahoma and Arkansas, north Texas, and parts of Kansas and Missouri.

We are  involved in the local arts community and have been an active Allied Arts member agency in Oklahoma City since 1999.

Competition comes in the form of an annual Regional Competition where choruses and quartets from a five-state area come together to determine who will represent the region at the Sweet Adelines International Competition. OK City has proudly represented Region 25 at the International Competition more than 20 times, most recently in Denver, Seattle, Honolulu, and Las Vegas.  We are proud to have placed 14th in the world in the 2018 competition in St. Louis.  International Competition is the ultimate female barbershop competition -- not to be missed!

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. OK City Chorus currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartet section and learn more about them.
